In India, the NRI quota in MBBS is very popular. It’s no longer hard to find an NRI in your family or close relatives. Nearly every Indian family has an NRI living overseas. While students are eager to cash in their NRI quota, the government is equally eager to admit NRI students to MBBS programs. As a result, both parties benefit.
Benefits to NRI in MBBS Admissions in India
In India, foreign nationals, OCIs, PIOs, and NRIs are given preference in the educational system. Many states have set aside seats in the MBBS program for foreign nationals working in government and private medical institutions, as well as OCIs (Overseas Citizens of India) and PIOs (Person of Indian Origin). The counseling process for NRI seats varies from state to state and is completely different.
NRI Seats are in the following order of priority to the exclusion of next category.
Category I : NRI/Children of NRI who originally belong to the State of Punjab.
Category II : NRI/Children of NRI who originally belong to an Indian state other than Punjab.
